As an Amtrak semi-regular, I can picture the various scenes. This afternoon, I'll be heading down to Philadelphia on the Acela, which is usually a bit more comfortable, if less amusing. More interesting than the mode of travel is the event I'm heading to: my brother has asked me to go with him to a Jimi Hendrix tribute show down in Atlantic City (where, to quote Bruce Springsteen, "everything that dies someday comes back"). In itself, that's of no particular moment, but it's better seen as the bookend to the musical event I went to last night, "The Threepenny Opera," at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. I am willing to bet I am the only person on earth to hit that particular exacta.

Very clever, very clever, DeeJay. Nice to hear your comments, especially as someone who regularly sees this cast of characters and the issues that arise. I love that you can picture what I wrote and relate to it. And I really appreciate what you wrote on my substack, in saying you would pay for a subscription ("You've got enough edge to be worth reading."). So flattering. I do need to caution you about one thing, though: Atlantic City is not in Philadelphia. ;-0

My kid brother lives in Cherry Hill. He's picking me up at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia and we're going from there to AC. Staying the night there, then the reverse commute on Saturday. I could continue my "Atlantic City" (as opposed to the mere Atlantic City) theme by noting that the first line of that tune is "Well, they blew up the Chicken Man in Philly last night..." I travel in reasonable confidence that I will avoid a similar fate.

Mmmm. Chicken.

Don't forget to stop by White House Sub Shop or Fork and Knife Inn, which is well worn but nostalgic.

All that's missing is the steady clickety-clack soundtrack.
